Generic Zovirax (Acyclovir) is used to treat the symptoms of chickenpox and shingles; herpes virus infections of the genitals, skin, brain, and mucous membranes (lips and mouth); and widespread herpes virus infections in newborns. It is also used to prevent recurrent genital herpes infections. Generic Generic Zovirax is not a cure for herpes, but it does relieve the pain and discomfort, as well as helping sores heal. Generic Zovirax may also be used for other virus infections as determined by your doctor. However, there are various virus infections on which it will not work, such as the common cold.
